Choosing a Certificate for 'Se7en Devils' - Looking at the BBFC Website

I need to decide on a certificate, or classification rating, for my film, so I have looked at the BBFC website to get a clearer idea of appropriate ratings for films from the horror genre. Most of the films I have analysed have gained a 15 or 18 certificate from the BBFC, and these seem to be the most common classification for horror films (with the occasional film being rated 12A).

The ‘BBFC’ is a company that gives movies of all genres age certificates, some of which are restrictive (such as 15 and 18), alongside providing information regarding the reasons why films have received a particular classification (via BBFC Insight), allowing spectators to decide whether or not a film is appropriate for them or others.

The BBFC divides their age ratings into five categories (which can all be found on the BBFC website Here):

  • U - suitable for all
  • PG - parental guidance
  • 12A - cannot buy a film if under 12
  • 12 - 12 and under, has to have parental supervision when watching in a cinema
  • 15 - not suitable for under 15
  • 18 - not suitable for under 18
The BBFC classifies films through their guidelines based on a range of categories including violence, strong language, nudity and sex, and easily recreated acts.
