Closer Analysis of TV Spots - Conclusion

The main conventions of TV spots is that they consist of a rapidly edited montage of scenes from the film, that shows less of the plot than would be found in a theatrical trailer, instead focusing on action and 'eye candy'. TV spots are usually distributed a week or so before the film's theatrical release, with their purpose being to to entice the audience to the cinema that week.

Here are some of the conventions that I will use in my own TV spot if I decide to make one:
  • Production company idents/logos, shown very briefly at the start
  • Montage of footage from the film, showing the most exciting parts
  • Specific release date, probably 'Out Now, 'In Cinemas Now' or 'In Cinemas Friday'
  • Tagline spread across the trailer
  • Title of film
  • Reviews and star ratings
  • Keep it short - 30 seconds-1 minute
