Closer Analysis of Teaser Trailers - Introduction
A teaser trailer is a short preview or advertisement for an upcoming film. These trailers are usually released months in advance of the release date and are designed to generate excitement and interest in the upcoming project. They typically feature only brief clips from the film (often containing images from previous films if it is a sequel), and may include voiceover or text that hints at the story or themes without giving away too much narrative information. They are usually called teasers as they try to 'tease' the audience, giving only a glimpse of what to expect in the upcoming film.
Teaser trailers are often created for films with high-profile casts, big production budgets and well-known directors, as well as for films that are part of a franchise, or adaptations from existing source materials, like books or comics. They help in raising the anticipation and hype of the audience for these sort of films.
To understand the structure and common conventions of teaser trailers further I am going to look at two films that have not been released yet, but which have teaser trailers: ‘Barbie’ and ‘Scream 6’.
