Closer Analysis of Teaser Trailers - Conclusion

The main convention of these two teaser trailers is that they withhold narrative information from the audience. These trailers reveal very little about the plot of the film and instead tease the audience with a few images, leaving them to use their imagination to guess the overall story. The purpose of these trailers is to create enigma and intrigue for the audience.

Here are some of the common conventions of teaser trailers that I will use in my own teaser trailer if I choose that medium.
  • Dramatic non-diegetic music which indicates genre
  • Tagline(s)
  • Title of film towards the end
  • Name of director
  • Name of actor
  • Vague release date - just referencing the month/season and the year
  • Links to social media and websites, so that viewers are encouraged to find out more information and keep updated
  • Slower pace of editing at the start - long takes
  • Quick montage of the most exciting moments (with little narrative information revealed) at the end of the teaser
  • Try and create enigma/mystery
  • Only very briefly introduce the characters
  • Include production company idents, very briefly at the start
